Keep Shelly in Athens - despite attempts to stay as mysterious as possible - are a boy-girl duo consisting of Sarah P and RPR from (unsurprisingly) Athens. Whilst a two-piece in the studio, they recruit more musicians for their explosive live shows, which are not to be missed. Being frequently placed in the "chill wave" pigeonhole, this is a reductive term for a band as exciting as KSIA, as shown by their output on legendary electronica label Planet Mu and indie upstarts Forest Family Records.
Keep Shelly in Athens effortlessly switch from Balearic downtempo to synth-heavy and scattered electronica, but one constant remains - that of the haunting and sultry vocals of Sarah P. Her voice, whether in the whispered words of 'Song to Cheer You Up', or the reverb-laden summer night soundtracker 'In Love With Dusk', is absolutely enchanting. Dripping in beauty and with more than a hint of sadness, it is a pleasure to listen to. Heavenly synths tangle with blissed-out melodies, but their solid low end and heavy drum patterns stop them from floating off into the dream-pop ether.
With a steady stream of remixes and the promise of more original material to come, we're happy for Shelly to stay in Athens.
